Oscar-nominated British-Indian movie Slumdog Millionaire on Friday faced protests from people living in slum clustters here over its title when the film was released at a multiplex.

Several residents of the slum clustters led by Punjab VHP spokesman Vijay Singh Bhardwaj staged a protest inside the multiplex.

"The name of the film depicts the sick mentality of Britishers," Bhardwaj said adding "even so many years after independence the mindset of English people have not changed towards Indians".

"The name (Slumdog) is not acceptable...we strongly condemn it," he said.

"I've not seen the film," he said in reply to a question and added the people living in slum clustters have strong objection to the name of the film. "Poor people cannot be called by the name of dog...its a shame," he said.

However, there was no disruption in the screening of the film.
