In a late evening decision, the transfer of 11 accused in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case from Ahmedabad to Mumbai was stopped for security reasons, sources in the prison department confirmed. They may be produced in a Mumbai court after a few days.

The sources said that the decision was taken due to delay in the official procedure to shift them to Mumbai. All the 11 accused, including four suspended IPS officers, were to be produced in a Mumbai court for trial.  The 11 accused include suspended IPS officers - DG Vanzara, Dinesh MN, Rajkumar Pandian and Abhay Chudasma. Prison department sources said the accused will not be shifted on Friday either and the exact day will be decided soon.  

Talking to DNA, earlier in the day, joint commissioner of police, administration, Ahmedabad city, Sanjay Shrivastav said the process of shifting the accused was in place. However, later in the day, it was decided not to shift them on Thursday. Talking to DNA, the DGP, Gujarat state, said that all the requirements of the prison department to shift the prisoners from Ahmedabad were met.
