Even exchanging pleasantries with an expelled member is considered breach of discipline in CPI(M).

But there can be an exception in Somnath Chatterjee’s case, which may be visible at the West Bengal assembly hall in Kolkata on July 8.

Chatterjee will share the dais with party general secretary Prakash Karat, who played a key role in his expulsion for refusal to quit the post of Lok Sabha speaker in UPA-I.

The occasion is ‘Jyoti Basu Memorial Lecture’ and Bengal assembly speaker Hashim Abdul Halim has decided to invite both.

If Karat does not skip the lecture at the last moment,
he will be seen on the same dais with Chatterjee after a long gap.
