Earlier a Congress spokesman stated that rally at Kapurthala had also been cancelled, but later said the party has decided to hold the Kapurthala rally.

Inclement weather forced cancellation of Congress President Sonia Gandhi's scheduled rally at Moga on Thursday in the run up to the elections to the 117-member state Assembly on January 30.

Gandhi was scheduled to address rallies at Moga and Kapurthala on Thursday.

It was to be the first big political rally in the state.

Earlier a Congress spokesman had stated that Gandhi's rally at Kapurthala had also been cancelled, but later said that due to improvement in weather, the party has decided to hold the Kapurthala rally.

The Congress President would be reaching Kapurthala via Amritsar, Congress sources said.

Top Punjab Congress leaders, including state party chief Amarinder Singh and party's political affairs in-charge Gulchain Singh Charak, were among others who were expected to attend the rally.

Amarinder and other Congress leaders rushed to Kapurthala from here.

Dense fog, which had been blinding the state for the past few days, played a spoilsport for the Congressmen at Moga.
