Spanish King arrives on Wednesday

While in Delhi, Carlos I will be accorded a ceremonial welcome on October 26. He will call on President Pranab Mukherjee who will host a state banquet in his honour.

Spain's King Juan Carlos I will arrive in India tomorrow on a four-day state visit and will be accompanied by high-level ministerial and business delegations.

He will be in Mumbai and Delhi during the course of his visit.

While in Delhi, Carlos I will be accorded a ceremonial welcome on October 26. He will call on President Pranab Mukherjee who will host a state banquet in his honour.

Delegation-level talks are expected to take place between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Spanish King.

"The king will be accompanied by high-level ministerial, official and business delegations from Spain," a Ministry of External Affairs statement said.

India-Spain bilateral trade in 2011 was close to $5 billion, which represents a growth of almost 18% over 2010.

Spanish investment in India is over $1.3 billion. India's total investment in Spain is valued at around €605 million.

"Mutually beneficial opportunities for investments by Spanish companies in India exist in a number of sectors such as infrastructure, transport, energy, amongst others," the statement said adding the royal family of Spain has a strong and abiding interest in India.

"The visit of His Majesty is expected to carry forward the process of high-level interaction and deepen the relations between the two countries," it said.
