According to officials, SpiceJet flight 206 took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 7:09 pm for Mumbai. A total of 217 people, including passengers and crew members, were on board.

Within a few minutes, the pilot sought permission to land the plane back at Ahmedabad airport. The plane landed safely at Ahmedabad at 7.41 pm, ATC officials said.

Sources said the pilot noticed some technical snag in the aircraft so he decided to make the emergency landing.

However, a top official of SpiceJet said he did not know the exact cause. “We are not yet aware of the exact cause or nature of the technical snag,” said Sanjay Aggarwal, CEO, SpiceJet.
