A Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight made an emergency landing at the city airport early on Wednesday, following pressurization failure in the cabin. The flight, SG 160 Boeing 737, with 194 passengers on board, departed from Mumbai at 5.55 am. It suffered a sudden drop in cabin pressure mid-air and requested diversion to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport (SVPI) and landed there at 7.10 am.
Confirming the same, Manoj Gangal, Director, SVPI, said: "The flight faced pressurization failure at 6.45 am. The aircraft requested for diversion with an immediate landing at Ahmedabad, which we approved. All emergency procedures were immediately activated at the airport.
As per the information received from the ATC, the pilot of the aircraft had reported of smelling something that's burnt at 6.55 am and requested a parking close to the landing area, which was immediately approved. The aircraft landed at 7.10 am under the full watch of crash fire tenders, ambulances, and medical facilities. They were served meals and ferried at 12.00 pm by a special flight, Gangal said.
