On Thursday, militants had carried out three back-to-back operations, leaving one Special Police Officer (SPO) dead and two others, including the wife of the cop, injured.

Police said militants fired at Mohammad Ashraf Mir from a close range, injuring him grievously at Murran Chowk in the Pulwama district at 4.25 pm on Saturday. He was immediately taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

"Due to multiple firearm injuries, the official succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom," said a police spokesman. A wreath laying ceremony was held where floral tributes were paid to the martyr. Earlier in the morning, militants shot at and injured an SPO who was regulating the traffic in Anantnag district. He was immediately rushed to hospital for the treatment.
