Eight persons were arrested from different parts of Uttar Pradesh, and spurious medicines with a face value of over Rs1 crore were seized during a special drive launched by the food and drug control department.
"A fortnight-long special drive was carried out recently in 14 districts to check sale of spurious and fake medicines. During the drive, medicines worth Rs1.37 crore were seized, and cases were lodged against nine persons, of which eight were arrested," an official spokesman said here today.
Two shops in Varanasi and one each in Agra, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Mau, which were running without drug license, were sealed. Two godowns operating without license were also sealed in Muzaffarnagar, he said.
