KOLKATA: A heart-warming tale of human- animal coexistence has emerged from Kolkata. Living up to its reputation of being man’s best friend, a pack of stray dogs guarded an abandoned infant at the Howrah station in Kolkata. The infant girl was found abandoned near the waiting area of the station. A half-filled bottle of milk along with a bag full of diapers also lay beside her.

Despite being one of the busiest stations in Kolkata, nobody came to the girl’s rescue. Except the dogs. The dogs remained around the girl the entire day, refusing to venture away even to search for food.

The dogs never attacked the baby. This continued till a RPF personnel came upon the scene and alerted officials.

Last year in Purulia district, Bengal, four stray dogs sat around a seven-day old baby which was found in a dumpster. Chasing away the crows the dogs stood guard around the baby until someone came to rescue her.
