The state government plans to erect the Centre through Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. It would come up on around 11,000 sq mt land in new civil hospital campus.

The government has hired New Delhi-based 'Hospitech Management Consultancy' for preparing the layout including architecture and project management.

According to Vyas, maximum patients of kidney and liver related diseases come from Surat and South Gujarat. Also, the number of transplants and donations in the region is high, which increases demand for a full-fledged centre, he said.

The Centre will work in close collaboration with Government Medical College, Surat, and Ahmedabad-based Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre.

Officials say the Centre would also help in promoting medical tourism in Surat.
