RAMPUR/UP: A man suspected to be an agent of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence was arrested on Thursday by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police and documents relating to military establishments of India were recovered from him.
Mohammad Afroz, a resident of Katra Jalaluddin locality in the town, was arrested from a cyber cafe while he was about to place a call to his masters at Lahore in Pakistan to give vital information about defence establishments of Meerut, Shahjahanpur and Bareilly, STF sources said.
Two hand-written letters containing information about the military establishments in these areas were recovered from his possession, they said.
Afroz had been to Pakistan on four occasions in 2001 and 2005 and had allegedly met Pakistani intelligence officials. He was provided training in sending defence-related information through the internet, the sources said.
Afroz was specifically asked to gather information about the movement of military vehicles and Ranchi-based anti-terrorist cell of CRPF, the sources said adding he used to receive funds through Western Union Money Transfer.
Afroz was being interrogated, the sources added.
