Amid much talk about recession, students of Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) at Surat got whopping offers during campus placement held in the varsity, which has surprised even the college administration. A girl student has received the highest offer of Rs16 lakh from Microsoft.

Out of 426 final year students of various departments, 391 were hired by different companies and given offer letters. "Apart from dotcom and blue chip companies, PSUs and government companies were also keen to hire the students. The minimum package offered was Rs6 lakh p.a.," said DB Naik, placement officer of SVNIT.

While 85 students who received offers were from the electronics engineering department, the figures for other departments are as follows - mechanical (70), computer engineering (55), electrical (45), chemical (39), civil (34) and production (22).

The successful campus placement has made the mood at the institute upbeat. The college administration is very happy with more than 90% final year students getting jobs.

"This is indeed a very special moment in my life. I was confident of being selected during campus placement, but I never thought of such a good package. I have achieved what I have always dreamt of," said Ruchika Gupta, computer engineering student who received the highest offer of Rs16 lakh. She has also received a similar offer from two other companies.
