Swine flu claims 38 lives during past week in India

Maharashtra bore the brunt during the week (July 19 to July 26) reporting 18 cases. Kerala reported the second maximum number of 8 cases.

The swine flu virus, which has been on a resurgent course since the beginning of monsoons, tightened its grip over the country during the past week with 38 deaths being reported from various parts.

Five deaths were reported from Karnataka, two from Delhi and one from Karnataka. One was reported from West Bengal and two from Gujarat.
 
Swine flu cases have seen an upward surge since the onset of monsoons.
 
All the 548 cases reported during the week are indigenous cases.
 
Till date, samples from 14,9077 persons have been tested for swine flu in government laboratories and a few private laboratories across the country and 34,669 (23.2%) of them have been found positive.
