Vijayadharani has been appointed as the whip of the party.

The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has appointed Karaikudi (KR) Ramasamy as the 15th legislative assembly floor leader and Vijayadharani as the whip of the party, EVKS Elangovan, President, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, told the media on Monday morning.

In the recently concluded assembly elections, the Congress party won eight seats out of the 41 it contested across Tamil Nadu. The Congress had an alliance with the DMK, it's long time ally in Tamil Nadu. Vijayadharani won from the Vilvancode constituency in Kanniyakumari district and Ramasamy from Karaikkudi in Sivaganga.

Addressing the media, EVKS Elangovan said that after a meeting held few days ago in Chennai  with senior Congress leaders Mukul Wasnik and Sheila Dixit it was decided that both the Congress leaders who won in the elections will be appointed.

The Congress was blamed for the DMK's defeat in the recent elections. But EVKS stated that DMK leader M Karunanidhi himself had said that the DMK cadres did not work in a full-fledged manner in places where the Congress contested. He added that the DMK and the Congress will be a strong opposition in the assembly and will work in full force. He also criticised the Election Commission for cancelling the polls in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur constituency.

When asked about the private milk companies hiking prices, he replied that the rise in milk prices by the private dairies will only put a hole in people's pockets. The high fat content milk was hiked by Rs 2 by private milk dairies and is now hovering above Rs 40 per litre. One of the promises in the manifesto of the ruling party was to bring down the prices of Aavin milk, the government-owned milk dairy, and this expected to happen, he added.
