A day after his car was attacked, Tamil Nadu minister OS Manian again faced the wrath of angry protestors on Monday, with agitators criticising him for tardy pace of relief operations in cyclone-hit Nagapattinam district of the state.
In a video shared on social media, Manian is seen surrounded by angry protesters who are shouting at him and asking him to leave. He tried to make an escape, but was again confronted by the people. He was later taken away inside a police vehicle.
Meanwhile, sporadic protests were held in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts on Monday, with people angered over the lack of drinking water and non restoration of power supply and mobile network in several parts of the state, even three days after the cyclone made landfall. On Monday, police sources said that road roko was held at over 30 places in three districts.
Manian alleged that the sporadic protests were being held only after the visit of DMK president MK Stalin to the flood-affected areas. Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar asked the affected public not to be misled by anti-social elements. "Some people are misleading the public saying that they would get the relief only if they stage protests," he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced Rs.1,000 crore towards, relief and restoration works being undertaken in areas affected by Cyclone Gaja. He will personally distribute the financial assistance to farmers, coconut growers and others in person on Tuesday.
