Lawyer Shanti Bhushan was detained by the Delhi police after the detention of anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare and prominent activists Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi hours before Hazare was to launch his fast against corruption.

The 73-year-old Gandhian was taken into custody from a residential area in Mayur Vihar before he was to proceed to the venue of his fast in JP Park where prohibitory orders are in place.

The BJP termed the crackdown as "worse than the Emergency".

Team Anna will move Supreme Court against the detentions, Prashant Bhushan said.
