Telangana not an internal affair of Congress: BJP

Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad held talks with Congress leaders from different regions of Andhra Pradesh as part of efforts to resolve the Telangana problem.

Taking exception to Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad holding talks with Congress leaders from different regions of Andhra Pradesh to resolve the Telangana problem, BJP on Friday asked whether the statehood issue is an internal matter of the ruling party.

"How can Ghulam Nabi Azad hold talks with Congress leaders from different regions and say he is trying to resolve the Telangana issue? Is it an internal affair of the Congress? If the issue is to be discussed, Parliament is the appropriate forum," BJP National Secretary K Lakshman said.

"Azad also says that the problem would be solved in 100 days. Is this not deceiving people? Why Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi are silent on the entire issue?" he asked.

Condoling the alleged suicide of a Telangana youth in Delhi for the cause, Lakshman said the BJP would like to instil confidence among people that it would deliver the separate after it came to power.

"I was in Delhi yesterday. Because Congress is deceiving (people) on the statehood issue, Sushma Swaraj wanted us to give the assurance that BJP would give Telangana after it came to power."

BJP functionaries in Andhra Pradesh would go to Delhi and meet President and Prime Minister on the Telangana issue, he said.
