The 'Chalo Assembly' rally of Telangana Students Joint Action Committee turned violent at several places in the Hyderabad on Monday.

The 'Chalo Assembly' rally of Telangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) turned violent at several places in the city here today.
    
The rally was organised in support of demand for statehood for Telangana.
    
"Students hurled stones at the security personnel at Adikmet and Nizam Collage hostel at Basheerbag area forcing us to use tear gas shells to disperse them," East Zone DCP Y Gangadhar told PTI.
    
Over 500 students tried to take out a rally from the Arts College towards NCC Gate and tried to remove barricades put up by police. Students indulged in heavy stone pelting when they were prevented from marching towards the assembly, the DCP said.
    
A group of protesting students set fire to a bogie of a local train at Jamai Osmania railway station. However, a police party immediately rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire, he said adding that five students were taken into custody in this connection.
    
Violent protest was also reported from Necklace railway station where students set afire a ticket booking centre and damaged windowpanes of the station by pelting stones, police said.
