According to crime branch officials, around 10 kidnapping cases took place in the city till now in 2011. However, most of these cases were solved without any harm to the kidnapped persons.

These cases include kidnapping of nine-year-old girl Dhruva near Prakash College in Thaltej. Dhruva Manish Patel, daughter of a famous builder, was kidnapped on January 4, while she was travelling in a school van at 7:30 am. She was rescued within 24 hours by the crime branch.

On February 20, Anupama Khanchandani, six-month-old daughter of well-known businessman, was kidnapped by their servant Amit from Rajdeep villa bungalow near Prahladnagar garden. She was rescued after two days by crime branch.

On March 20, Krishna, a two-year-old girl, was kidnapped by two unidentified women near Sola overbridge. These women were caught by the crime branch and Krishna was rescued within 24 hours.

On October 26, a girl kidnapped her own cousin and demanded ransom of Rs40 lakh from her uncle. Payal kidnapped her five-year-old cousin brother Aditya to help her boyfriend who lost Rs11 lakh in cricket betting. Crime branch nabbed Payal and her boyfriend within 24 hours and rescued Aditya, son of Bharat Bhalchandani who runs Hotel Mansarovar in Maninagar. 

According to Mayur Chavda, ACP (Crime Branch), officials are glad that no one lost their lives. "Crime branch was 100% successful in detecting such cases during this year, and we are glad that we have saved the lives of all those kidnapped," said Chavda.
