DINDIGUL (TN): Ten persons were injured when police made a lathicharge to disperse Hindu Munnani activists who allegedly broke barricades and tried to take out a "Vinayakar Idol" procession through a banned route in Parapatti near here Thursday.
Police made a lathicharge when the processionists tried to advance by breaking the police barricades, police said.
Police had banned certain routes to avert communa electrical and communications wings designed the car for the competition, being organised by Formula Socielty of Automotive Engineers (FSAE).
Team leader Kaushik Mani, a seventh semester student, told reporters while the car was on display, that about 150 universities from across the world would take part in the competition.
He claimed that the car designed by the MIT students was the lone entry from Asia.
The car went through extensive tests at Coimbatore for 20 days, he said and estimated it's cost at USD 15,000.
Manipal University Vice-Chancellor Dr Ramdas M Pai unveiled the car for public display at the college campus.
