Terror plot to kill scribe: 1 more held in Bangalore

Small-time timber merchant was part of terror module busted by police recently.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested one more suspect as part of their investigation into the recently-busted terror module which was allegedly plotting to kill some journalists in the city. Joint commissioner of police for crime (East) B Dayananda said that the suspect has been identified as Syed Tanzeem Ahmed. He was arrested on Sunday from Vasanthanagar.

Dayanand said Ahmed had recceed for the terror module by keeping tabs on a columnist of a Kannada language newspaper. He said Ahmed, a small-time timber merchant from Mysore Road, had shadowed the columnist for weeks.

He had collected information about the columnist’s movements, his vehicle and residence, and later passed it on to another terror suspect Shoib Ahmed Mirja alias Chotu, who was earlier arrested by the CCB police. He also used to pass on information about the columnist to Abdul Hakeem Jamadar. Ahmed went missing after 14 terror suspects were arrested two months ago. 

“We arrested Ahmed based on the information provided by Chotu that the details about the columnist were provided by him,” Dayanand said.

Ahmed was produced before the 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court on Tuesday, which remanded him in police custody till November 19. Police said they will try to will gather more information from him.

Fifteen persons have so far been arrested in connection with the terror plot. The other fourteen are currently lodged at the Parappana Agrahara central prison and will be produced before the court for hearing on Wednesday.
