Ahead of Burhan Wani's second death anniversary, terrorists attacked a CRPF party with a grenade injuring a soldier and a civilian near Hyderpora by-pass on the outskirts of Srinagar on Saturday.
The incident occurred at 4 pm when terrorists surfaced near the shopping mall and tossed a grenade on a CRPF posse leaving one jawan and a civilian injured. Security forces rushed in reinforcements immediately, however, the terrorists managed to escape from the scene.
"A grenade was thrown on CRPF people close to Mall near Hyderpora flyover. One CRPF personnel sustained minor injuries and he is fine", said Ravideep Sahi, Inspector General of CRPF, Srinagar Sector.
The attack comes at a time when there is heightened security in Kashmir in view of Burhan Wani's second death anniversary on Sunday. "Once again an attack in the heart of Srinagar city, this time on the road to the airport. This at a time when security forces are deployed at record high levels because of the yatra. Very worrying," tweeted Omar Abdullah, former J&K chief minister.
On the other hand, curfew like restrictions were imposed in Burhan Wani's hometown of Tral and old Srinagar city to avoid any protests, demonstrations and marches on Sunday. Heavy deployment of forces was made to ensure peace and order.
Joint Resistance Leadership of Separatists called for a complete shutdown on Sunday and decided to hold public rally at Burhan Wani's hometown of Tral to mark the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujhadeen's poster boy.
Authorities have also snapped mobile internet in Srinagar to avoid fake news, rumour-mongering and circulation of inflammable material on social media and WhatsApp groups in the valley.
