A 39-year-old woman, lawyer by profession, from Thane has been receiving lewd messages from the past few months.
However, the victim had lodged a complaint with the Thane cyber cell department, from where, the case was transferred to Thane Nagar police station for further investigation. No one is arrested in the case as of now, as the phone number of the accused is switched off but traced at West Bengal. The police has sent a letter to get the call detail record (CDR) for both the numbers. The victim has not identified the accused yet.
A case has been registered under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and section 66 A of the IT Act of the IPC. D Boreste, senior police inspector said, "We have registered a case and the victim is an advocate. The victim had first approached the cyber cell and after which, it was transferred to us. We will go through the call details but no arrest has been made yet."
Another police officer said, "The accused had two numbers registered against his name. We are going through the details and it is suspected that the number belongs to West Bengal. The accused started to send messages in the month of September."
