Thieves struck at fortified Jai Vilas Palace, the abode of Scindia's in Gwalior by taking away silver utensils, antiques and documents related to property disputes pending in courts, police said. The theft was reported yesterday from the Eastern wing of the palace, where the late Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia used to live, police said today.

It came to light when the eastern wing was opened for routine cleaning by palace employees following which Gwalior MP and Rajmata's daughter, Yashodhara Raje Scindia was informed about it in Delhi. On her instructions, her assistant in Gwalior Satish Jaiswal filed a complaint in the Jhansi Road police station in this regard, police said.

Silver utensils, antiques and documents pertaining to property disputes related to Scindia's properties in Delhi and Mumbai were found missing from the wing, police said.  A detailed report about the missing articles will be filed with the police once Yashodhara Raje returns from Delhi, the police added.
