Third batch of 3,217 pilgrims leave for Amarnath from Jammu

As many as 3,217 pilgrims comprising of 2,866 male, 538 females, 89 children and 262 sadhus left in 111 vehicles from Bagwatinagar Yatri Bhawan base camp in Jammu around 5.30am today.

A third batch of the 3,217 pilgrims today left Jammu base camp for the 3,888m high cave shrine of Lord Shiva at Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas amid tight security arrangements.

As many as 3,217 pilgrims comprising of 2,866 male, 538 females, 89 children and 262 sadhus left in 111 vehicles from Bagwatinagar Yatri Bhawan base camp in Jammu around 5.30am today, police officials said.

The yatra convoy with mobile escort of CRPF, plice and ITBP has already crossed Udhampur and are on their way to the base camps of Baltal and Pahalgam in Kashmir valley, they said.

As many as 13,000 pilgrims had 'darshan' of ice lingam of Lord Shiva at the cave shrine of Amarnath till now, Amarnath Shrine Board officials said.

"The yatra is going on smoothly," they said, adding all necessary facilities have been provided enroute.

Around 2.90 lakh pilgrims have been registered so far across the country. The yatra would conclude on August 25.
