This crowdsourced map lets Chennai residents know which areas are waterlogged

More than 23500 workers cleared out water in Vysarpadi, Madipakkam, Velachery, Adyar, Korattur, Villivakkam, Arumbakkam, Sholinganallur, Perungudi, Manali, Kodungaiyur, Porur, Chintadripet, Valasaravakkam, Pazhavanthangal and Alandur.

A customisable Google map is allowing residents of Chennai to mark areas in the city that are waterlogged. 

The crowdsourced map is open to all to help mark roads in the city that are blocked. It also allows people to mark safe alternative routes.

With heavy rains lashing Chennai on Sunday, a number of people had to be rescued because of rising water levels. Chennai Corporation rescued about 1900 people on Sunday, taking them to shelters, according to a report in The Hindu. 

More than 23500 workers cleared out water in Vysarpadi, Madipakkam, Velachery, Adyar, Korattur, Villivakkam, Arumbakkam, Sholinganallur, Perungudi, Manali, Kodungaiyur, Porur, Chintadripet, Valasaravakkam, Pazhavanthangal and Alandur.​

At Chennai, of 587 areas, water has been removed in 207 locations and Corporation of Chennai workers were involved in clearing water in the rest of the places. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said that most subways, except for six, had been cleared of water and vehicular movement restored, adding that uprooted trees were being removed on a war footing.

The Chief Minister said that the government was implementing relief and rehabilitation measures on a war-footing in neighbouring Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram areas.
