Even as tensions run high in the country over beef ban and related issues, a Durga temple in Jodhpur, Rajasthan set a unique example of communal harmony.
All priests of this Durga temple are Sindhi Muslims who have their roots in Pakistan, Jagran report.
Built on a hill at Bagoria village in Jodhpur, one of the oldest Durga temples has no restrictions on devotees' religion. People from all caste and communities visit the temple in huge numbers to worship goddess Durga.
The story goes that a group of Muslim businessmen from Sindh were travelling from here with their cattle and one of them strayed from his group. He was on the verge of dying of hunger and thirst when he discovered water at this very spot which saved his life. He, then, refused to head back home and built a temple.
The main priest of the temple Mehradin tells Jagran that he and his fellow priests have lived here for generations and that devotees from all communities visit the temple.
