Tihar prison authorities are planning to introduce the touch screen facility wherein a big computer screen will display all the information a prisoner wants to know about himself during the course of his stay in jail.

Tihar Jail inmates may now be a 'touch' away from information about their stay in prison and other necessary personal details for which they had to go through lengthy official procedures.

Tihar prison authorities are planning to introduce the touch screen facility wherein a big computer screen will display all the information a prisoner wants to know about himself during the course of his stay in jail.

"We are planning to introduce a touch screen facility inside all the jail premises so that inmates can have access to information about themselves without hassles," Sunil Gupta, law officer and spokesperson, Tihar Prison, said.

"Information like mental and medical health, parole, medication updates, remission, release dates, case and crime info, visitor list, will all be available on this touch screen computer," he said.

Gupta said that the system will be developed in a manner that it will automatically calculate the sentences, remission and release dates without human errors.

For safety of the data, each prisoner will be given a unique code number.

Citing an example, Gupta said, "Suppose, he wants to know the remission earned. He will be given a unique remission code number which once fed on the display screen will project the respective information," he said.

Gupta said this facility is part of the modernisation project for the Tihar prison.

He said, "The facility once at our disposal will ease the ordeal of both the prisoner and the administration. They can access the information anytime without disturbing the prison authorities."
