Tirunelveli district collector Sandeep Nanduri, who has drawn the flak for failing to save a labourer’s family facing harassment from loan sharks from committing suicide has taken to Facebook to defend himself and alleged that the victim not only borrowed money but also lend the money to various persons in their village.

Sandeep broke his silence in a Facebook post hours after the police arrested cartoonist G Bala on his complaint about a demeaning caricature of him, the chief minister and Tirunelveli police commissioner.

Denying the charges of inaction on his part, he said that action was taken on all the four petitions given by the victims as per the procedure.

A labourer, his wife and their two children had set themselves ablaze outside the collectorate office last week. They were admitted to a hospital where they later succumbed to severe burn injuries.

On the complaint against cartoonist Bala, the collector, in his post, said that everyone has the right to express and even criticise but “there is a limit for creativity and freedom of expression.”

Sandeep said a probe is on the “truth will be out soon”.
