Police have arrested all three, including a former employee who was terminated from services at a hospital owned by the doctor

A veteran doctor and former head of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Dr Rajiv Gupta, 56, was shot dead by unidentified assailants here. Dr Gupta was heading towards a market on Saturday when three motorcycle-borne persons arrived at the spot and shot him dead. IMA has called for statewide protests to condemn the murder of the senior doctor in CM Khattar's constituency.

Police have arrested all three, including a former employee who was terminated from services at a hospital owned by the doctor. "The main accused is a former employee of the hospital owned by Dr Gupta, the other two are his friends," said Karnal Range Police Commissioner Yogendra Nehra. Nehra also explained the revenge plot: "To avenge his removal from the hospital's rolls, Pawan planned to murder Dr Gupta and roped in his friends."

"The trio was arrested near the border of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh," said Superintendent of Police Surender Singh Bhoria. "We have also seized the murder weapon."

Even as the opposition slammed the Haryana government, claiming collapse of law and order, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar paid a visit to Gupta's house and expressed condolences.

Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala lashed out at the BJP government, accusing it of having failed in ensuring safety of people. Senior INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala also condemned the incident.
