Slamming the BJP government at the Centre over fuel price hike, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday said the Trinamool Youth Congress would hit the streets and take out protest marches against the decision.
"We don't support anti-people polices such as increasing fuel prices. Trinamool Youth Congress will hit the streets in each and every district and at block levels of the state against this decision. We will take out protest rallies from tomorrow itself," Banerjee, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee's nephew, told reporters today.
The price of petrol was yesterday hiked by Rs 3.13 a litre and diesel by Rs 2.71 per litre, the second straight steep increase in rates this month. The decision of TMC comes in the backdrop of allegations levelled by CPI(M) and Congress that Mamata Banerjee's sharing of dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Burnpur was a result of a covert political understanding between BJP and TMC over CBI going slow on the Saradha scam and TMC helping BJP in passing of bills in Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, Bengali actor Soham Chakraborty who made his mark as child actor in Satyajit Ray's 'Shakha Proshakha', joined Trinamool Congress. Soham was a regular in various public meetings and rallies of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
