Tripura government is working on a comprehensive plan to establish two elephant conservation reserves to make natural habitats for the jumbos. While one would come up at Gandhari in Gomati district spreading over 61.4 km, another at Atharamura Hill Range in Khowai and adjacent Dhalai districts covering an area of 125 km, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, AK Gupta said on Monday.

For the purpose, a consultative meeting of forest officials and local representatives was likely to take place in June-July, Gupta said.

Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled radio caller would be fitted with the elephants to study their movement and behaviourial attitude. According to the last census, the state has around 59 elephants and the number might have enhanced over the past few years, he said.
