Apparently dejected over their failure to clear the IIT entrance exam, two teenage girls from New Delhi on Monday attempted suicide by jumping off from a five-storey building here, police said.

Priyanka and Nupur, both hailing from West Delhi's Dwarka locality, jumped off from an under construction five-storey building near Kacchi ghati area and were admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) here in a serious condition, additional superintendent of Police (ASP) AK Dhiman said.

The girls, aged around 18 years, took the extreme step as they were dejected over their failure to qualify the IIT entrance test, he said. The duo first came to Chandigarh from Delhi and from there reached Shimla this morning and took the extreme step late afternoon, the ASP said, adding their families were informed about the incident.
