NEW DELHI: Two Indians have been arrested in the US on charges of exporting sensitive dual-use items, with American officials alleging involvement of some unidentified Indian government officials too.
India said it was looking into the allegations.
"There are allegations. We are looking into these allegations," Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon said when asked to comment on the development.
Parthasarthy Sudarshan, founder of Singapore-based Cirrus Electronics, and Mythili Gopal, top executive of the company, have been arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for allegedly exporting to India some heat-resistant computer chips which can be used in missiles, micro-processors and semi-conductors.
These items were allegedly exported for use by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Aeronautics Development Establishment and Bharat Dynamics Limited.
According to FBI, these items were exported for use in missiles, light combat aircraft or some other defence-related project.
Two unidentified Indian government officials, including one posted at the Indian Embassy in Washington, have been accused by FBI of being part of the conspiracy.
