At least two persons, including a woman, were injured as clashes between protestors and police erupted in some parts of the Kashmir Valley after Eid prayers today.
A group of youth shouted slogans and pelted stones at police and CRPF personnel soon after the prayers concluded at Eidgah, Safakadal and Kawdara areas in the old Srinagar, official sources said.
The law enforcing agencies used batons and tear gas shells to chase away the demonstrators who were protesting against the recent spate of arrests in the old city, they said.
Two persons, a policeman and a woman, were injured in the clashes, they said.
Protests also erupted in volatile north Kashmir town Sopore after Eid prayers.
Dozens of protesters indulged in stone-pelting at the local police station and a CRPF camp after hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani addressed a gathering in the apple town.
Police fired tear gas shells to restore order in the area, they added.
Similar protests were also reported from south Kashmir's Anantnag town and Humhama in Budgam district, but there were no reports of anyone getting injured in the clashes, the sources said.
