Two LeT terrorists eliminated in J&K's Anantnag district

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were gunned down by security forces in an encounter in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Friday.

The identity of the terrorists is yet to be ascertained.

The gunfight between the terrorists and the security forces broke out in the Sirhama area on Thursday evening after security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists.

As the forces zeroed in on the spot where the terrorists were hiding they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter.

The operation was put on hold at night but the cordon was kept intact. It was resumed in the morning and fresh exchange of fire occurred, after which the targeted house was blown off by the forces.

On Thursday, unknown terrorists attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol party in the Chadura area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district.

An officer of ASI rank was martyred in the attack.

"Motorcycle-borne terrorists fired upon the deployed troops of B/117 Bn CRPF at 0745 Hrs. One ASI of 117 Bn sustained bullet injuries and being evacuated to the hospital. Troops carrying out Search in the area," a security force official said earlier.

The injured officer was shifted to 92 base army hospital for treatments, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
