Two more die of swine flu in Chandigarh, toll reaches 8

With mercury falling in Chandigarh and its surrounding areas, there has been a sharp increase in the number of positive cases in the city.

A teenaged girl and a woman succumbed to swine flu here, taking the total number of deaths due to the disease in the region to eight.
   
"A 16-year-old school girl and a 27-year-old maid servant have died due to the swine-flu in the city," an official spokesman said here today.
   
The family members of the girl and the immediate contacts of the maid have also been quarantined, he added.
   
With mercury falling in Chandigarh and its surrounding areas, there has been a sharp increase in the number of positive cases in the city during the past one month.
   
Earlier, six persons from various places in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh died due to swine flu at different hospitals in Chandigarh and Mohali.
   
Ever since the outbreak of the swine flu, so far 156 positive cases have been reported here, out of which 48 are school children.
