Two members of a Sikh family including a girl drowned while taking bath at Furlijharan water fall, about 15 km from here, police said today.

Two members of a Sikh family including a girl drowned while taking bath at Furlijharan water fall, about 15 km from here, police said today.

The deceased persons were identified as 34-year-old Narendra Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur of Punjab and his niece 5-year-old Abnit Kaur. Narendra was the maternal uncle of the deceased girl.

A Sikh family from Bahadurbagicha pada of Bhawanipatna town on sight seeing, had been to Karlapat wild life sanctuary along with their relatives who came from Punjab.

While returning back to Bhawanipatna, they also visited the Phurli Jharan Water fall, police said.

However, the minor girl Abnit Kaur (daughter of Manjit Singh) slipped from the top of the water fall. The maternal uncle of the girl Narendra Singh in a bid to save the girl jumped into the water and died.

The relatives recovered the bodies and brought them to the Government Hospital, Bhawanipatna where they were declared dead.
