Two train passengers in West Bengal injured in firing by Maoists

Superintendent of police Manoj Verma said an anti-Maoist operation was underway when bullets fired by Maoists hit a compartment of Tatanagar-bound Steel Express, injuring two.

Two persons, including a policeman, travelling on board the Tatanagar-bound Steel Express, were injured in a crossfire between Maoists and joint forces at Banstala station in West Midnapore district today.

The injured were admitted to the Jhargram Sub-Divisional Hospital.
           
One of the injured was identified as Pallab Tripathi. He was injured in the leg.
           
Passengers of the train demonstrated when it reached the Jhargram station.
           
It was at the Banstala halt that Maoists had detained the New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express from Bhubaneswar for eight hours on October 27 last year during a shutdown called by the PCPA.
