Domestic feuds and violence lead to two deaths and severely affects six families as various members battle for their lives due to serious injuries.

Two women have already died; a couple is struggling with severe burn injuries at a hospital while two men are now in a bad shape. These separate incidents which shattered the peace of at least six families, took place in Vejalpur police station’s jurisdiction in the last four days all for one common reason - domestic feuds over petty issues.

On Monday Ruksana Bibi, a resident of Juhapura, died at a hospital. She had been admitted there after her husband Mohd Umar Shaikh allegedly struck her genitals during a domestic quarrel. Police said that Shaikh is an alcoholic which made it difficult for Ruksana to run the family on her own.

Similarly, another woman, Nikita reportedly hung herself at her residence four days back in Vejalpur area. The reason, cops said, was her husband Sandip’s decision to live with his father. Nikita protested this move and in the end chose to take the extreme step.

In another ironic incident in the area, three days back, Ketan Thakkar, 27, and his wife Kenisa Panchal were rushed to the VS Hospital. According to cops, the couple had a fight over domestic issues after which Ketan is said to have poured kerosene oil and set himself on fire.

“Kenisa rushed to save him and got burnt in the process. Ketan, on the other hand, rushed to the balcony in a frenzy and jumped from the third floor. Even after he fell to the ground, he was crying for the safety of his wife. The couple who was in love, married only last year but rifts crept into their relationship,” said police sub-inspector BR Makwana.

The cop said that the couple had been admitted to VS Hospital where they are struggling for their lives with Ketan having been burnt nearly 60% while his wife has sustained 55% burn injuries.
Makwana said that the fight erupted as Ketan was unhappy with the way in which his wife kept the house.
