Students and professors of the Kadi Sarva Vishwavidyalaya have come up with a device that will serve as a Unique Identification for the cattle in the state.
Christened the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), the tag can be attached to the ear of an animal. This RFID-tag will act as the 'unique identification' of the cattle and the information about the animal will be scanned and stored in a mobile device.
The information can be accessed by cattle care workers.
Through this device, information about cattle's health, artificial insemination, pregnancy detection, calving etc can be known in real-time. The system can help take preventive measures.
This simple yet effective system was developed by the project cell of Kadi Sarva Vishwavidyalaya, Gandhinagar. According to Prof. BR Pandya, this device has many benefits, and it can be used for the 1.5 crore cattle population of Gujarat.
"This can be used to send alerts through SMS to owners and veterinary doctors as per their need. This also can help prevent loan frauds as with the ID the authorities will know whether the cattle was mortgaged before or not," said Prof Pandya, in charge of the project.
According to Prof Pandya, the project was taken up as part of an MOU between an IT-company based in Ahmedabad and Kadi Sarva Vishwavidyalaya.
"Information regarding the cattle in Gujarat can be accessed by the government, relevant organisations and individuals" said Prof Pandya.
