Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh has decided to link all its beneficiary schemes to Aadhaar card for transferring subsidy directly to the accounts of the beneficiaries.
A decision to this effect was taken on Tuesday at the Cabinet meeting. The Cabinet has also decided to introduce legislation in this regard during the winter session of the UP Assembly.
Briefing mediapersons on Cabinet decisions, the government Spokesperson and Health Minister Dr Siddharth Nath Singh said that the state government aims to link all its beneficiary schemes with Aadhaar card to bring them under the direct benefit transfer (DBT) in a bid to check leakage, pilferage and corruption.
To begin with, he said that all pension schemes, government scholarships and public distribution system (PDS) will be linked with Aadhaar to transfer the amount direct ly into the accounts of the beneficiaries. "This will also bring in accountability and the government will also get to know how much budgeted fund was distributed to beneficiaries," he pointed.
The government has also amended existing rules for opening more kerosene shops in villages.
