Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Saturday stressed that the dress used by students during the convocation function in universities should reflect Indianness.
"The dress worn earlier during convocations had had a British touch and it should now be changed to an Indian one," Naik who is also the chancellor of the state universities said while talking to newspersons after the meeting of VCs of 25 state universities.
"Some universities have started using Indian dresses and this is a welcome move," he said.
The chancellor also said a proposal for having five years' tenure for VCs up from existing three years has been sent to the government.
