A controversy erupted after a Urdu teacher allegedly asked students to replace 'Namaste' with Salaam Alaikum' in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi.

It has bean alleged that the school teacher identified as Ishtiaq Khan forced students to say 'salam' instead of 'namaste'. However, when the students informed about this to their parents, the parents rushed to the school along with the Bajarang Dal members and created a ruckus.
However, before the matter could escalate, the school Principal Anita assured the parents that no such incident will take place again and she also made the teacher apologize for his act.
Meanwhile, The Basic School Officer (BSA) has asked an explanation from the teacher and also ordered an inquiry into the matter.

Narrating the incident, a Bajrang Dal activist told ANI, "My niece told me that when she wished the teacher (Ishtiaq Khan) good morning, he said that don't greet me with good morning, and say 'Salaam Alaikum' instead. We came to the school and met with the principal. The principal said that she was not informed about the same, but added that if such a thing happened then action would be taken."
