With a view to introduce qualitative changes to the education sector and make it free from the education mafia, the Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh has decided to slap a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on unrecognised, illegal schools in the state. They have also decided to make it mandatory for all schools and colleges to install CCTVs and biometric machines for attendance, to seek recognition from the UP board.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma, who also holds the education portfolio, has announced that UP board will only recognise schools and colleges which have installed CCTVs and biometric machines for attendance.
To ensure transparency, the minister has also issued directives to make the process digital. “UP board recognition will be given to schools and colleges after physically verifying that CCTVs and biometric machines are installed.
The minister has also constituted a team in each district, which will submit a report to the Board after visiting the school premises. The step has been taken to control corruption and curb the influence of mafias over education in the state.
The government has also decided to slap a fine of Rs 1 lakh on schools that are running illegally without obtaining a certificate from the state government.
Government schools and those run by local authorities or following the rules of the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, have been kept out of the purview of the clause.
As per the order, the government will have the right to withdraw the recognition of any school that flouts the provisions of the RTE Act. “Recognition to such schools will be terminated without seeking any explanation ,” the order states.
