In what comes as a new low even for crime in India, a horrifying video of a minor girl being gang-raped by two youths in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district went viral on the internet.
As soon as the video of the rape went viral on social media, Uttar Pradesh police immediately took cognizance and launched a manhunt for the accused in the case. Without getting into too many details of the case, it can be said that the video of the rape was filmed by some passerby youths, a shocking revelation on the level of apathy towards horrific crimes in this country.
The police have registered a case of rape and have also charged the youths who filmed the video under the IT Act. The search is on for the accused and the cops have said that all resources have been deployed so that justice is realised soon.
This comes just two days after Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping and thrashing an elderly woman aged 70 in the Ballia district. The incident took place on Saturday.
A case was registered against him on the basis of a police complaint lodged by the nephew of the 70-year-old woman and the accused was arrested, the SHO said.
