NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on WEdnesday issued notices to the CBI and the Association of Victims of the Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT) on a petition filed by Gopal Ansal, co-owner of Uphaar cinema, challenging his conviction by the trial court in the fire tragedy case.
Justice H R Malhotra also sought response of the CBI and AUVT on the petition of another convict, out of a total of 12 convicts, MCD official S S Sharma and fixed the next hearing on January 4.
"They are saying that the Superintendent of Police and district magistrates remain happy as long as they are shown on television. The SPs and DMs know the law, but are reluctant to implement it," he said.
Stating that the country's FM Radio segment had immense possibilities, he said the government's policy on FM Radio was transparent.
After granting permission to the Maulana Azad University, the IITs and the ITIs to set up their own community radio stations, the I&B Ministry was now thinking of allowing NGOs to do so.
While earlier, community radio stations were barred from raising revenue, the ministry was now considering allowing them to cover 10 to 15 per cent of their broadcast time with advertisement of local commodities to raise some revenue, the minister said.
