The Jammu and Kashmir assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes as Opposition members protested over "withdrawal" of security to former PDP MLA Gulam Mohmmad Mir.
Raising the issue, PDP member Abdul Rahman Veeri alleged that security of Mir was withdrawn by the Omar Abdulah government despite the leader facing treat to his life.
Mir, whose father was killed by militants, is facing threats and was attacked twice. Despite this, the State home ministry headed by Chief Minister Abdullah has withdrawn his security, Veeri charged.
"CM should tell us wether he is facing threat or not," he said, claiming that security cover of over a dozen office bearers were also withdrawn by the NC government.
He was joined by members of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers party (JKNPP) and BJP who accused the government of
discrimination on the security front.
"Security should be given to leaders of PDP, BJP, JKNPP or to any one else as is being provided to NC members," JKNPP leader Harsh Dev Singh said.
Deputy speaker Sartaj Madni, who was in the chair, said the speaker has issued direction in this regard and a reply from the government is awaited.
The opposition demanded reply from the government and the House witnessed noisy and unroarious scenes for over ten
minutes.
