US consulate-general to organize 'election watch' in Kolkata

A US consultate release said here today that a diverse group of American citizens, members of Kolkata’s civil society including high school students and teachers, academicians, business leaders, NGOs and the media fraternity were expected to attend.

US Consulate General here will be organizing the "Election Watch", a special event for invited guests to watch the U S Presidential elections, in the city.

''U.S Election Central in Kolkata will be at the American Center from 5:00 am to 12:00 noon on November 7," it said.

Large screen telecasts will be made live from major U.S. television networks such as CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS. Attendees will also receive regular updates of election results through special election maps that stream state-wise polling trends, interspersed with remarks from Consul-General Dean Thompson and Director of the American Center Jeffrey Reneau.

Meanwhile, sources at Americxan centre said that the American Center lobby, Lincoln Room and the Library would be decorated with festoons, buntings and balloons highlighting the traditional American theme in red, white and blue.

Life-size cutouts of the two presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney will welcome guests to the American Center. There will also be a mock ballot where guests can cast their votes to see who would win the race in Kolkata.
